Some people think that carp fishing can only be successful at certain times of the year. However, if you’ve got luck on your side, the best weather conditions for carp fishing can happen all year round! Below, we’ve got some tips and tricks to help you have the best fishing experience in every season.

Spring
The spring months are a great time for carp fishing, especially if you want to catch big fish. It’s been suggested that April has the best weather conditions for carp fishing in France, so if you’re looking to plan a carp fishing holiday then this might be the best time of year to do it! The weather is getting warmer in the springtime, and the carp are just waking up, so it’s a perfect time for finding carp. The trick to finding carp in the spring is to watch for bubbles, clouding in the water and signs of movement. Weather-wise, it can still be a bit cold in the wind, so your best bet would be to find a sheltered area of water.

Summer
If you are one for warmth and sunshine, summer probably has the best weather conditions for carp fishing - it’s a great time to be outside in the fresh air. Summer is the time of year when you want to get involved with surface fishing, which is a really exciting type of fishing which despite its challenges can be very rewarding. Make sure you use floating pellets as this will attract the carp out from their shelter and get them feeding on the surface. When you’re looking for carp in the summer, it’s a good idea to target thick weeds as this is where fish will shelter in the hot weather.

Autumn
Around this time of year, carp will be more active as they will be looking for a food source and preparing for the colder months. Heavily baited areas can be very successful at this time of year. And in terms of the bait itself, you should use boilies and make sure you’ve picked the right one. Once you’ve found one that works for you, stick with it. Another thing to note about the autumn time is that the bigger carp will usually come out together as a brace so it’s important to be ready!

Winter
Location is a big factor in the success of carp fishing in the winter, and that means that patience is key! Don’t be afraid of trying shallow waters as carp can shelter in a number of different places. Keep trying different areas and eventually, you’ll find a prime spot. Once you’ve got a good location, it’s important to continue putting bait in little and often – in the cold months, carp will not move far from a food source so you’ll be able to keep them attracted to your bait if you keep recasting.

No particular season necessarily has the best weather conditions for carp fishing, so all you need to do is adapt your technique and keep trying! If you have any questions or want to find out more about carp fishing in France, you can get in touch with us here.

Well a massive thank you to Paul and Carmen Armfield and lake owner Jean Noel for a fabulous week at 'The Secret Garden'.
It felt just like that, as we were secluded from the world in our own little carp heaven, only venturing out when we wanted to.

If you want a family holiday with one or two of you fishing, with some local site seeing / touring thrown in, this is the perfect venue.
There aren't many venues in France that combine the estate lake feel of this place with a great house to stay in. It is, quite simply, superb. I can't wait to go back.
